New Private Arts and Psychotherapy Practice!
I am excited to be joining APTED (Association of Professionals Treating Eating Disorders) as a psychological assistant under the supervision of Dr. Deborah Brenner Liss. I will be accepting clients as of June, 2007, once I have my psychological assistant number from the Board of Psychology. Sliding scale payment options are available.
I specialize in:
Recovery from Eating Disorders (anorexia, bulimia, compulsive/binge eating)
Body Image/Re-Image-ing the body
Alcohol/drug addiction (6 months sobriety or completion of primary program required)
Codependency
Depression or Anxiety
Developing a Spiritual Practice
Blocked creativity
Career Visioning
The modalities I use include expressive arts (drawing, collage, writing, movement, sand tray dialogue, meditation) as well as traditional talk psychotherapy. You are invited to not “be an artist” in the sense of critiquing what you make or who you are, but to explore what emotions you are experiencing, who you are in this moment, and who you want to become.
My orientation is primarily in Imaginal Psychology*, though I integrate a Humanistic approach and Cognitive Behavioral tools. In our work together, we will work on identifying the ways your critical self-talk relates to your eating disorder, addiction, blocked creativity, depression, anxiety, or codependence. Through compassionate mirroring, expressive arts, spiritual practice, and developing a support system, you will learn how to strengthen your ability to be with uncomfortable emotions. You will learn how to be both more present and fiercely compassionate with yourself, no longer needing to over/under eat or engage in other behaviors that block your growth in becoming a fuller human being.
I also encourage 12-step participation were appropriate.
Please contact me with questions, referrals, or to set up an initial session!

Many Blessings,
Linda McCabe, MA, Doctoral Candidate
